The miracle of the resurrection

On February 26, 2010, at about 6pm in the evening at a town called Lajamanu in the Northern Territory, it began to rain fish.  This town is at least 300km from the nearest sea or lake.  When I first heard about  this, I didn’t think it was true as I have never seen it rain fish. But this was reported in a reputable newspaper, with eyewitness accounts, a photo, and a possible scientific explanation.  So although I doubted it, the evidence means it is probably true.

Jesus’ rising from the dead is something many have trouble accepting.  It seems so supernatural, and so far beyond what we normally experience. When people we know die, they don’t come back. But just because we haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. In John 20Open Link in New Window we are told the evidence – an empty tomb, graveclothes lying folded, angels, and the risen Jesus.  This evidence cannot be easily explained away by saying someone stole the body, or it was made up, or it was the wrong tomb.

If Jesus really did rise, it means his sacrifice on behalf of those who trust him was accepted by God.  It means this is the most important event in world history. It could mean, for you, that your life now and forever is changed – a new hope, a new family, a new purpose.  But look into the evidence.  Don’t just write it off. It matters more than raining fish.
